Forward Turn Youth Grant
This grant provides funding for youth-led projects that promote healthy lifestyles, community unity, and youth engagement in Loudoun and Fauquier Counties.
Description
The Forward Turn Grant, managed by the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, is a youth-led initiative funded by the S. Murray and Mary H.C. Rust Student Philanthropy Project. The program awards grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 to support projects that strengthen youth lifestyles, foster united communities, and encourage youth involvement. Projects must primarily benefit youth in Loudoun and Fauquier Counties, with a strong emphasis on youth-led initiatives and collaboration between students, nonprofits, or community organizations.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, faith-based organizations, schools, and government groups serving the target counties. While adults may prepare grant applications, a youth participant must write a Letter of Endorsement and participate in an interview with the Forward Turn Youth Grantmakers. Additional priority is given to proposals crafted by youth and those that leverage other resources, such as volunteer time or matching funds.
Examples of fundable projects include programs addressing teen mental health, internet safety, mentoring, tolerance education, safe driving practices, teen pregnancy prevention, and environmental protection. Grants must directly support youth or be led by youth and should demonstrate high impact within the small grant size.
Applications are due by January 17, 2025, at 5:00 PM and must be submitted through the online grants portal. An optional pre-application workshop will be held via Zoom on December 3, 2024, at 6:00 PM, with recordings available for registered attendees. Interviews for selected applicants and youth endorsers will occur on March 3 or March 17, 2025, in the evening, with flexibility on scheduling.
Grant recipients will be announced by April 1, 2025, and will have one year to complete their projects and use the funds. For additional guidance or questions, contact Joanne Trimmer, Director of Grants and Nonprofit Programs, at joanne@communityfoundationlf.org or 703-779-3505, x1.
