Trident United Way Capacity Building Grant
This grant provides funding to nonprofits in the Tri-County area of South Carolina to strengthen their internal operations and enhance their capacity to serve communities effectively.
Description
The Trident United Way is inviting applications for the 2024-2025 Capacity Building Grants aimed at mobilizing resources and empowering nonprofits that are committed to making a positive impact in the Tri-County community of South Carolina, specifically in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. These grants are designed to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of nonprofit organizations by providing funding that focuses on improving internal operations rather than direct service delivery. The initiative seeks to strengthen the organizational capacity of nonprofits, enabling them to better fulfill their missions and serve their communities.
The primary purpose of the Capacity Building Grants is to invest in the internal workings of nonprofit organizations. This includes enhancing strategic planning, operational structures, and long-term goals. The grants aim to support various initiatives such as staff and volunteer development, training and certification opportunities, improvements in technology and equipment, and the development of strategic planning outlines. Examples of eligible projects include skill-building opportunities for staff or board members, diversity and equity initiatives, leadership development, and website development.
Organizations eligible to apply for these grants must have been providing relevant services for at least one year and must be registered with the South Carolina Secretary of State. Additionally, they must be able to provide a 990 or 990EZ form and other standard documentation, including proof of 501c3 status, Board of Directors information, and a Non-Discrimination Policy. To qualify, at least 60 percent of the agency's service population must be at or below the ALICE threshold, and the organization must not be classified as a private foundation or engage in political activities as defined by the IRS.
The application process requires organizations to demonstrate alignment with Trident United Way's priority areas, which include Education, Financial Stability, Health, and Basic Needs. Furthermore, the organization must provide services without regard to race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran status, or disability. The Board of Directors must consist of at least three non-compensated members who are not related by blood or marriage.
Submission requirements include a completed application form and supporting documentation as specified in the guidelines. The evaluation criteria for applications will focus on the potential impact of the proposed capacity-building activities, alignment with Trident United Way's mission, and the organization's ability to effectively implement the proposed initiatives.
The deadline for submitting applications is October 7, 2024. Organizations interested in applying should ensure that they meet all eligibility criteria and prepare their documentation in advance of the deadline.
