This program provides funding for community-driven projects that improve the Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara neighborhood in Madison, Wisconsin, with a focus on diversity, inclusivity, and positive social impact.

Description

The SASY Neighborhood Grants program offers annual funding for projects that enhance the Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara (SASY) neighborhood in Madison, Wisconsin. This program is open to individuals, groups, and 501(c)(3) organizations proposing projects within the SASY neighborhood. Priority is given to residents and organizations headquartered in the neighborhood. Projects must align with the goals of enriching the neighborhood for residents, businesses, and visitors while promoting diversity, inclusivity, equity, and positive social impact.

Eligible projects include public art, education programs, music events, place-making initiatives, and public service programs. Proposals should demonstrate realistic planning and budgeting, public accessibility, and collaboration among community members. All projects must serve to improve the overall experience of the SASY neighborhood and be completed within one year of receiving the grant, with extensions possible upon Board approval. General operating expenses, wages, and lobbying efforts are not eligible for funding.

Grant amounts vary annually based on proceeds from AtwoodFest, with applicants eligible to request up to $2,500. Typically, 8–10 projects are funded each year. Applicants must submit their proposals by February 1, 2025, at 11:59 PM and attend the February 13, 2025, SASY Board meeting at the Goodman Community Center (or virtually if needed) to present their project. Final funding decisions will be made at the March 13, 2025, Board meeting, and award notifications will follow shortly after.

Recipients must use grant funds exclusively for the approved project activities or materials and incorporate the SASY Neighborhood Grant logo into promotional materials. They are also required to share photos and updates on the funded projects for SASY's promotional use and may be asked to report on their project’s outcomes at a future SASY Board meeting or in writing.
