This funding opportunity supports U.S. government-sponsored exchange program alumni in Eswatini to implement innovative projects that strengthen U.S.-Eswatini ties and benefit local communities.

Description

The Eswatini Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) 2025, managed by the U.S. Embassy in Eswatini, is a funding opportunity designed to support U.S. government-sponsored exchange program alumni in implementing projects that address shared U.S.-Eswatini policy goals. The initiative seeks innovative proposals that leverage alumni expertise to strengthen ties between the United States and Eswatini, benefit local communities, and support the Department of State’s public diplomacy objectives. This program is funded by FY 2025 Fulbright-Hays Public Diplomacy Funds.

Up to $105,000 in total funding is available, with individual grants ranging from $5,000 to $35,000. The program anticipates awarding a maximum of three grants. Eligible projects must be completed within 12 months, with an expected start date between June 1 and September 1, 2025. Applications involve a two-step process, beginning with a Statement of Interest (SOI) due by January 15, 2025. Successful SOI applicants will be invited to submit full proposals by February 15, 2025.

Eligible applicants are U.S. government-sponsored exchange program alumni. Teams must include at least two non-U.S. citizen alumni, one designated as the team lead. Projects may involve U.S. citizen alumni, provided they do not lead the initiative. Proposals should address one or more program goals, such as fostering alumni collaboration, enhancing leadership skills, and achieving mutual goals between the U.S. and Eswatini. Projects should also align with specific U.S. government priorities, including supporting creative industries, enhancing technical and vocational opportunities, and fostering youth leadership in business and innovation.

The SOI process requires a concise 1–2-page outline in English that details the proposed program, including objectives, target audiences, an anticipated budget, and the team's capacity to manage U.S. government funds. Proposals selected through this initial review will proceed to the full application stage, which includes a detailed narrative, budget justification, and supporting documentation. Applicants must submit all materials via email to PDMbabaneGrants@state.gov.

Proposals will be evaluated based on alignment with U.S. Embassy priorities, feasibility, alumni involvement, community partnerships, and monitoring and evaluation plans. Additional criteria include a clear communication strategy and a reasonable, detailed budget. Projects should demonstrate measurable outcomes, use SMART objectives, and provide mechanisms for evaluating progress and impact.

Funding restrictions include prohibitions on expenses such as salaries, office overhead, large equipment, and activities occurring in the U.S. or its territories. Specific categories of allowable costs include local transportation, venue rentals, training materials, and reasonable honoraria for trainers or speakers. The program does not require cost-sharing but encourages partnerships to maximize resource use and impact.

The award process includes risk assessments, adherence to federal regulations, and compliance with reporting requirements. Recipients will submit periodic financial and programmatic reports and may request funds through Form SF-270. Successful applicants will be notified by May 30, 2025. Full terms, conditions, and templates for proposals are available upon request or through the U.S. Embassy Eswatini website. For assistance, applicants may contact PDMbabaneGrants@state.gov.
