Description

The Social Justice Fund (SJF) Northwest has announced the 2025 Immigration Justice Grant, which supports grassroots organizations working within the states of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. The grant initiative is part of SJF’s 2025 Giving Project, with a strong focus on Immigration Justice. The foundation seeks to support movements that are led by immigrants, refugees, and migrant workers who are most impacted by harmful immigration systems. SJF’s intent is to support community organizing efforts aimed at dismantling intersecting forms of systemic oppression including colonialism, imperialism, anti-Blackness, Islamophobia, ableism, classism, and xenophobia.

The objective of this grant is to empower organizations that are actively building collective power to resist immigration-related injustices such as discrimination, criminalization, detention, deportation, and harassment of immigrant communities. The goal is to contribute to a future where geographic borders do not restrict people from living and thriving in dignity. Eligible initiatives may include public advocacy, litigation, abolition work, farmworker and labor organizing, policy development, and gender-based violence prevention.

The 2025 Immigration Justice Grant provides one-year grants of $25,000. Funding is available for nonprofit organizations, tribal agencies, and groups that are fiscally sponsored by 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) nonprofits or tribal governments. Organizations can apply without a fiscal sponsor but must confirm one if selected for funding. While general operating support for direct service providers is not available, those organizations may apply for funding for project-specific work that aligns with SJF’s definition of community organizing.

To qualify, organizations must be working within the five-state region mentioned above and align with SJF’s community organizing framework. The fund prioritizes organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), especially those operating in rural and reservation communities. SJF excludes funding for individuals, endowments, capital campaigns, and projects primarily led by public institutions or government agencies unless they are community-driven initiatives led by impacted communities.

The application process opened on March 10, 2025. An informational session will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 3:00–4:30 p.m. Pacific Time (4:00–5:30 p.m. Mountain Time). The application deadline is Thursday, April 17, 2025, and award announcements will be made in July 2025. Prospective applicants unsure of their eligibility or with other questions are encouraged to contact the Grantmaking & Impact team at SJF at grants@socialjusticefund.org.
