Litter Crew Grant
This grant provides funding to South Carolina municipalities, litter control organizations, and community groups for litter removal projects, especially in areas that are challenging for volunteers to access safely.
Description
The Litter Crew Grant by PalmettoPride offers up to $10,000 to support litter removal initiatives across South Carolina, particularly on municipal roads that are difficult or unsafe for volunteers. Eligible applicants include government bodies, litter control organizations, Keep America Beautiful affiliates, and community groups that can manage crew payments. Priority goes to applicants who haven’t received funding in the last two years and those partnering with volunteer organizations. Applications, open from September 1 to December 1, must include a detailed litter pickup plan and budget, and any non-compliant applications will not be considered.
Funds can cover crew wages, OSHA-approved litter removal supplies, safety signage, and in-kind donations such as gloves, vests, and bags. The one-year grant period begins January 15, with PalmettoPride also requiring grantees to implement a litter prevention campaign if one isn’t already in place, with support available upon request.
Example projects include Spartanburg’s “Litter Hero Program,” employing homeless individuals for cleanup efforts. Recent grantees include Calhoun County, City of Sumter, and Keep Georgetown Beautiful, each receiving around $10,000 for community litter initiatives. For assistance, applicants may contact Sherryl Jenkins, and further details are on the PalmettoPride website.
