This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations in Racine to host events that attract visitors from outside the area, encouraging overnight stays and showcasing the city's culture and attractions.

Description

The 2025 Racine Special Event Grant Fund, established by the City of Racine and Visit Racine County, supports events and projects that attract visitors from outside the local area and encourage overnight stays in local accommodations. The fund is supported by 10% of the room tax collected by the city, with approximately $20,000 available for distribution. Applications must be submitted by 12 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025, via email or at the Racine County Visitor Center.

Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) status. Projects must take place within the City of Racine, be open to the general public, non-political in nature, and held in ADA-accessible venues. The grant specifically funds marketing efforts targeting audiences outside the Racine metropolitan area. Ineligible activities include conventions, exhibitions as part of a convention, and business meetings. Past recipients may reapply, but preference will be given to first-time applicants. The ideal project involves a multi-day event held in non-summer months, promoting Racine’s culture, history, art, or recreation, and attracting hundreds of overnight visitors.

The grant is a matching fund, requiring applicants to provide at least a dollar-for-dollar match, either in cash or in-kind contributions. Approved grants will disburse 70% of the awarded amount initially, with the remaining 30% provided upon submission of a complete post-event report. This report, due within 90 days of the event’s conclusion, must detail goal achievement, economic impact, media coverage, and any changes made during implementation.

Applicants are required to provide comprehensive details about the event or project, including location, activities, goals, partnerships, target audience demographics, and whether it is a first-time or ongoing event. A budget must outline promotional and operational expenses and funding sources, including how grant funds will be utilized.

This grant opportunity is designed to bolster Racine's tourism and economic growth through events that showcase the city’s unique culture and attract non-local audiences. Interested organizations should ensure that their proposed projects align with these objectives and adhere to all application and reporting requirements.
