Making a Difference Program 2025
This grant provides funding for innovative bioethics research that addresses urgent ethical issues in healthcare, aiming to improve decision-making and policy through practical solutions.
Description
The Greenwall Foundation invites proposals for the Spring 2025 cycle of its Making a Difference in Real-World Bioethics Dilemmas grant program. This program funds innovative bioethics research that addresses pressing clinical, biomedical, or public health ethical issues. Proposals should aim to resolve real-world dilemmas and align with the Foundation’s mission to expand bioethics knowledge and improve decision-making in health care, policy, and research. Projects must have practical impacts and support the Foundation’s vision for an inclusive and broad approach to bioethics.
Priority topics for this cycle include trust in science and medicine, bias and discrimination in health care, ethical issues arising from public health crises (e.g., infectious diseases or climate change), and challenges related to health care access and resource allocation. Proposals addressing other significant bioethics problems are also welcome. Projects may be empirical, conceptual, or normative, and must include a clear plan for dissemination to stakeholders beyond academia, such as policymakers, clinicians, or community leaders.
Eligible teams should combine bioethics expertise with practical experience in relevant fields. Early-career researchers are encouraged to apply with a mentor. The program supports pilot projects, feasibility studies, and phased research with potential for future funding. Successful proposals will demonstrate innovation, methodological rigor, and the potential to influence policy or practice. The Foundation provides up to 10% indirect costs for salaries and benefits, with investigator salaries capped at 1.5 times the NIH cap.
Key dates include a Letter of Intent (LOI) deadline of January 2, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. Invited full proposals are due by March 10, 2025, with decisions announced in late May. Projects must begin between July 1 and October 1, 2025. The LOI requires a concise narrative addressing the bioethics problem, aims, methods, dissemination, innovation, alignment with the Foundation’s mission, and team expertise. The narrative is limited to three single-spaced pages.
The Greenwall Foundation will not fund projects lacking a primary focus on bioethics, those with predetermined conclusions, infrastructure development, educational programs, or incremental improvements to established approaches. Only individuals affiliated with U.S. tax-exempt institutions are eligible, and investigators cannot hold simultaneous funding from the Foundation’s Faculty Scholars Program.
To apply, submit your LOI via the online portal at Greenwall Foundation Application Portal. For technical issues, contact support@foundant.com or Kyle Ruempler at kruempler@greenwall.org. Late applications due to technical errors will not be accepted, so early submission is encouraged. Additional resources, including FAQs and application tips, are available on the Foundation’s website.
