Marshall Foundation Grant Program
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in Tucson and Pima County that focus on educational programs and services for underserved populations, from early childhood through graduate education.
The Marshall Foundation, established in 1930 by Louise Marshall, is dedicated to enhancing the lives of Tucson and Pima County residents by supporting charitable and educational institutions. The foundation's funding is derived from retail leases on commercial properties within Main Gate Square, a real estate portfolio assembled by its founder beginning in 1903. Headquartered near the University of Arizona, the foundation prioritizes funding for educational programs from early childhood through graduate education and wrap-around social services that support underserved populations in their educational pursuits. Additionally, it funds scholarships and programs at the University of Arizona.
The foundation has awarded over $30 million in grants and scholarships in Southern Arizona since its inception. Its annual grantmaking focuses on three key areas: early childhood through graduate education, wrap-around services that support education for underserved populations, and University of Arizona programs and scholarships. While the foundation maintains these primary funding categories, it reserves the right to issue grants at its sole discretion.
Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations conducting charitable work in Tucson or Pima County. A fiscal agent may be used where applicable. Organizations must align with the foundation’s funding priorities and comply with reporting requirements. Grants are not awarded to for-profit entities or individuals. Additionally, grantees must uphold non-discriminatory practices in employment, volunteer opportunities, and service delivery.
The application process involves two steps: submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) followed by an invitation to submit a full proposal if selected. All applications must be submitted via the online portal, WizeHive. The LOI opens on Monday, February 3, 2025, and closes on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM MST. Applicants notified of progression to the next round will submit full proposals by Friday, April 18, 2025, with final awards announced on Friday, May 23, 2025. Award checks will be mailed between June and December 2025. Grants require a minimum request of $25,000, with most awards falling between $25,000 and $30,000, though requests of up to $100,000 will be considered.
Applicants must select one of four grant priorities when applying: Early Childhood to Graduate Education, Wrap-Around Services in Support of Education, University of Arizona Programs and Projects, or University of Arizona Scholarships. Early childhood to graduate education funding supports a broad range of educational programs, including access to education, teacher resources, STEM learning, and vocational training. Wrap-around services include support for basic needs, food security, after-school programs, mental health services, and advocacy initiatives.
In some cases, out-of-cycle funding may be available for requests below $25,000. Organizations seeking funding outside the regular cycle should contact the foundation for further information.
