The City of Boston’s Treasury Department manages the Small Community Grants Trust Program, a funding initiative that consolidates the proceeds from over 300 individual small-purpose trusts into one streamlined grant program. This consolidated approach allows the city to efficiently honor donor intentions by distributing funds to nonprofit organizations that support the residents of Boston through projects with direct and immediate impact.
The Spring 2025 application round opened on Monday, March 24, 2025, and the deadline to apply has been extended to Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Eligible nonprofit organizations must apply via the WizeHive platform, which requires the creation of an organizational profile. While a City of Boston supplier ID is not required to apply, it will be mandatory for any organization selected to receive a grant. Instructions for setting up a supplier ID and using the WizeHive system are provided on the City’s Grantmaking About Us page.
Funding is available for projects falling within the following focus areas: charitable and humane purposes (including humanitarian aid and services), special or new recreation initiatives, recreational areas for children (such as play and sports facilities), the beautification of Boston’s streets and public spaces, and field trips for children—particularly those involving nature experiences. Projects should demonstrate a clear benefit to the Boston community and align with one or more of the defined program categories.
To support applicants, the City of Boston offers multiple resources, including a FAQ document, instructional presentations, and a series of virtual office hours. These office hours provide an opportunity for real-time assistance and clarification. Upcoming sessions for the Spring 2025 round are scheduled for April 10 and April 11, as well as April 15, with sessions held at both midday and evening times to accommodate varying schedules. All sessions are accessible via Zoom using the same meeting link and ID.
