Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Cleanup and Abatement Grant FR86
This program provides funding to local governments and Native American tribes in California to clean up and prevent illegal dumping on agricultural lands.
The Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Cleanup and Abatement Grant Program, administered by CalRecycle, aims to assist in cleaning up and preventing illegal dumping on farm or ranch properties in California. The program is governed by California Code of Regulations (CCR), Section 17991(d), and Public Resources Code (PRC), Section 48100. The grant provides funding to mitigate the environmental and economic impact of waste disposal on agricultural lands.
This grant program offers four application cycles per fiscal year, contingent on available funding. A total of $1,000,000 is allocated per fiscal year for cleanup efforts, with maximum funding of $200,000 per applicant per fiscal year and a $50,000 cap per individual cleanup site. The funding can be used for administrative costs, disposal and recycling fees, equipment, materials, site security, and personnel time associated with cleanup efforts.
Eligible applicants include cities, counties, resource conservation districts, and federally recognized Native American tribes as defined in PRC Section 48100(d)(1). The cleanup sites must be located on farm and ranch properties, which include range or agricultural lands used for commercial livestock or crop production. The site does not need to have current agricultural production but must be appropriately zoned or authorized for agricultural activities. Easements and rights-of-way, such as public roads and utility corridors, are also eligible for consideration.
The current application cycle (FR86) has a submission deadline of April 2, 2025. Future cycles, including FR87, will be announced through CalRecycle's Notice of Funds Available (NOFA) on the CalRecycle Funding page and the California Grants Portal. Applications must be submitted online through the CalRecycle Grants Management System (GMS). Previous awardees for fiscal years 2022–2025 can be found on CalRecycle’s website.
