California Violence Intervention & Prevention Cohort 5
This funding opportunity supports California cities and community organizations in implementing evidence-based strategies to reduce violence and its root causes in underserved communities.
The California Violence Intervention and Prevention (CalVIP) Cohort 5 Grant is administered by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) to support local efforts in violence intervention and prevention. The CalVIP program is designed to provide funding to cities and community-based organizations to support evidence-based violence reduction initiatives that aim to reduce homicides, shootings, and group-related violence in disproportionately impacted communities across California.
The purpose of the CalVIP Cohort 5 Grant is to provide up to three and a half years of funding for projects that engage in community-led and evidence-based strategies to address violence and its root causes. Funded projects will begin on January 1, 2026, and run through June 30, 2029, including a service delivery period of three years, followed by six months for evaluation and auditing purposes. The funding is intended to support interventions such as violence interruption, street outreach, conflict mediation, trauma-informed services, and community healing.
Eligible applicants include cities and community-based organizations located in California. Non-governmental organizations that receive BSCC grant funds as subcontractors must comply with the BSCC’s Criteria and Assurance for Non-Governmental Organizations, and they must certify compliance with BSCC policies related to debarment, fraud, theft, and embezzlement. A non-binding Letter of Intent is due by March 14, 2025, and full proposals must be submitted through the BSCC’s Submittable Application Portal by 5:00 PM Pacific Time on August 18, 2025.
Applicants are encouraged to attend a virtual Grant Information Session on March 11, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM to receive further guidance on the application process, eligible grant activities, and proposal evaluation criteria. The session will be held via Zoom, with the Meeting ID 870 9284 6649 and call-in option at (669) 900-9128. Participation in this session is optional but recommended.
Proposals will be evaluated based on criteria set forth in the RFP, including project need, program design, performance measures, organizational capacity, budget, and adherence to the required program elements. Applicants must complete and upload mandatory attachments, including the CalVIP Budget Attachment, Project Work Plan, Criteria and Assurance for Non-Governmental Organizations, and Certification of Compliance with BSCC policies. Applications submitted after 5:00 PM on August 18, 2025, will not be considered.
The final funding decisions will be made following the review process, with awards expected to be announced before the grant term begins on January 1, 2026. All questions regarding the grant and application process must be submitted according to the updated RFP timeline. Prospective applicants are encouraged to thoroughly review the RFP Instruction Packet updated on February 19, 2025, for full details. For further assistance, applicants can contact the BSCC directly using the contact information provided in the RFP.
