2025 Byrne SCIP Grants – Cohort 2
This funding opportunity provides financial support to community organizations and public agencies in California to develop and implement strategies that reduce gun violence and improve crisis intervention systems.
The 2025 Byrne SCIP Grants - Cohort 2 is administered by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC). This funding opportunity is part of the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (Byrne SCIP), which supports strategies designed to address gun violence, crisis intervention, and behavioral health needs in communities across California. The funding is derived from federal funds allocated to the state of California, with BSCC overseeing the competitive grant process for selecting proposals to receive funding.
The primary purpose of this grant is to fund projects that reduce gun violence and improve crisis intervention systems. Funded projects must aim to enhance local crisis intervention programs, promote collaboration between community organizations and public agencies, and implement evidence-based strategies that address factors contributing to gun violence. Eligible activities may include behavioral health services, community-based violence intervention programs, risk assessments, and crisis response coordination. The program is focused on achieving measurable reductions in gun violence, increased community safety, and improved responses to behavioral health crises.
For Cohort 2, BSCC will fund projects with a two-year service delivery period beginning on August 1, 2025, and ending on September 30, 2027, followed by a two-month evaluation period. Non-binding Letters of Intent must be submitted by March 21, 2025, and full proposals must be received no later than 5:00 PM PST on April 7, 2025. Applicants must submit proposals using the BSCC Submittable Application Portal. All required attachments, including the Budget Attachment, Project Work Plan, and Certification of Compliance, must be completed and uploaded into the portal before the deadline. Late submissions will not be considered.
A Grant Information Session will be held on March 12, 2025, at 1:30 PM via Zoom, providing prospective applicants with an opportunity to ask questions and receive clarification on the application process. Participation in the information session is encouraged but not mandatory. The session will cover proposal submission procedures, eligible grant activities, funding requirements, and the evaluation and selection process.
Proposals will be evaluated based on established criteria outlined in the Request for Proposals (RFP) Instruction Packet. BSCC will review the alignment of each proposal with the stated goals of the Byrne SCIP Grant Program, the proposed work plan and budget, and the applicant's ability to demonstrate community collaboration, organizational capacity, and commitment to evidence-based practices. Selected projects will enter into a grant agreement with BSCC and receive funding according to the approved budget and project plan.
For further information, applicants may contact the BSCC staff directly. The official communication channels, including phone numbers and email contacts for BSCC grant management staff, are typically provided within the detailed RFP Instruction Packet and Submittable portal. All prospective applicants are encouraged to carefully review the entire RFP and attend the information session to ensure compliance with all requirements and to increase their chances of being selected for funding.
